Télécoms Sans Frontières (TSF)

PCCW Global helps to provide emergency telecoms as a Télécoms Sans Frontières (TSF) corporate partner. For more than 10 years, TSF has played a crucial role in supporting rescue efforts by deploying telecoms centers to relieve war or other disaster-hit locations.

By establishing emergency communications swiftly, TSF makes the difference between life and death in often dangerous conditions. The organization also helps unite displaced families by sponsoring free calls to anywhere in the world, so that civilians in desperate need are able to reach loved ones.

Sichuan Earthquake Relief

An earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter Scale struck Sichuan, China in May 2008, killing more than 68,000 people. The disaster disrupted power, causing severe telecoms congestion – an outage that seriously hampered relief efforts. PCCW Global contributed satellite phones to the China Red Cross to help facilitate communications for rescue teams.

Stand TALL helps children of Sichuan earthquake victims to stand tall

PCCW Global also co-operated with Stand TALL, an organization that helps rehabilitate victims physically disabled by the earthquake. We provided an MPLS connection between Sichuan State Hospital and the Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong. This enabled medical personnel in Sichuan to receive real-time training or advice from Hong Kong-based physiotherapists and other specialists via high definition video-conferencing links.
